As an entrepreneur and the Author of The Career Masterclass for Women, Becky Heidesch, turned a two-year job-search into an opportunity to create the career she couldn’t find. With just $300, a fax machine and a directory, she launched her first business, the Women’s Sports Wire, a national clearing house for women’s sport news and information. Her first check came from the NCAA, and she quickly grew her subscriber base to include 50% of the colleges in the country.
Over the next 30 years, she bootstrapped her way to success without any external financing. Starting as an independent contractor, she transitioned to a sole proprietor, then to an LLC, and eventually to an S-Corp. She founded a women’s sports marketing agency, two niche online career centers, and established WSS Executive Search, one of the first search firms in the country to specialize in placing women and diverse leaders across multiple industries.
Despite facing years of minimal or no revenue, she and her partners navigated challenging market conditions and seized new opportunities, all while juggling motherhood. Her diverse career journey spans higher education, the private sector, and working directly for the Chairman of the Board of a public company. She has held various job titles across different industries, made numerous career transitions, and interviewed and placed hundreds of professionals.
Over the years, her client base has ranged from Fortune 500 companies to innovative start-ups, to professional sports leagues. Her resilience and adaptability have not only driven her own success but have also empowered countless others to achieve their career goals.
While proud of the achievements she and her team have accomplished over the years, she remains committed to doing even more. The foundation of Becky’s success lies in her creativity, resourcefulness, passion and unwavering work ethic. Now, Heidesch is dedicated to giving back, sharing her valuable lessons, tips, and tools with other women.
